Carried by the wind, minerals settle over organisms, covering and filling their voids. Even after the remnants dissolve over time, they persist by adopting the shapes of what once was.

Inspired by the process of fossilization, this work examines how the dust of buildings and sand from construction sites layer over objects left behind, gradually taking their place. These objects transform and evolve into new forms, along with the spaces they inhabit. Like memories retained in the mind, their shapes are sometimes incomplete, sometimes excessive. These shell-like forms, reminiscent of their originals, establish a intertwined connection between the objects, the spaces, and those who once lived there.

This work is presented as part of the Polyphonic Garden exhibition at Tokatlıyan Han, a site-specific exhibition held in the upper floors of a historic building on İstiklal Avenue. Originally constructed as a grand hotel in the late 1800s and later converted into a commercial property, Tokatlıyan Han’s upper floors has remained closed for over two decades. The exhibition takes place amidst the debris-filled, unfinished upper floors, emphasizing the layered histories and material transformations within urban spaces.
