About
Şafak Kocaoğlu (1985, Istanbul) focuses on the interactions between the body and its surroundings, shaped by the economic and cultural structures.
Through mediums such as photography, sculpture and installation, she examines the ways these systems shape our perception of the world. Themes in her practice include embodiment, fragmentation, repair and transformation, often bridging the physical and the psychological. In her work, she seeks to generate both sensory experience and knowledge about what it means to exist as porous, relational subjects and create spaces for thinking forms of communication.
Şafak Kocaoğlu studied Business Administration at Koç University and later pursued Painting at Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. She lives and works in Istanbul.
